COUNTERING TERRORISM: THE NEW COST OF DOING BUSINESS IN AMERICA

Since the September 11th World Trade Center attack, the thoughtful human resources professional realizes that it is no longer business as usual, that it will never be business as usual, and, in fact, there is now a new cost to doing business in America. That new cost is the price of preparedness.

Business owners and human resource managers can no longer avoid developing and implementing a comprehensive corporate crisis management and response plan. Such a plan must include everything from how to handle workplace violence to how to deal with bomb threats, anthrax scares, and radioactive contamination. Further, these plans must include a proactive mental health component with the goal of maintaining workforce productivity. However, traditional employee assistance programs have neither the expertise, nor the desire to take the financial responsibility, for such preparedness. Leadership must come from senior business management. (See the article Countering Terrorism: The New Cost of Doing Business In America located on the Articles page.)

In this seminar CMC, Inc. consultants discuss material they have developed and presented at recent government sponsored National Summits held in New York City and Washington D.C. following the Attack on America. In particular, instructors focus on the nine steps necessary to develop a comprehensive crisis management and response plan specifically designed for today's environment.

Topics include:

  • Selecting and training the crisis management team
  • Performing a hazards assessment and workplace violence profile survey
  • Developing the crisis management "toolbox"
  • Developing and using risk rating criteria
  • Understanding and using Action Guidelines
  • Educating, training, and informing the workforce

CMC, Inc. consultants also discuss a unique aspect of the crisis management and response plan specifically designed for those companies that have a significant part of its workforce involved in business travel. This is the Corporate Travel Security Program.

Topics include:

  • The role of the travel manager
  • Use of ready response lists
  • Pre-travel guidelines
  • Emergency communications
  • What to do when a travel emergency occurs
  • Description of the Employee Recall/Recovery Plan

Length: Eight hours

Cost: $3,000 plus expenses
